Day 2: Dinner - Papa John's Newbie

Left my laptop at work, so my apologies to all of you who are craving an intense dinner video blog. Maybe tomorrow.

Continuing the "pizza I always see commercials for but never actually eat" trend, I found myself face-to-face with a deep-dish pizza from Papa John's.

Aside from the fact it's a square pizza cut like a round one and came with some gross garlic sauce and a hot pepper (can someone explain that one to me?), it was pretty good.

I have to say my first Papa John's experience was a good one (even though every slice being a right triangle sorta threw me off). I think if I was blindfolded and given a deep-dish slice from Pizza Hut, and one from Papa John's, the only way I'd be able to tell the difference is that Pizza Hut tends to be crispier. They taste exactly the same, but the Papa John's pizza is very doughy--actually it's pretty much undercooked.

Better ingredients, better pizza, Papa Johns.

Day 2: Lunch - Dominos "New" Recipe

My inital reaction when I opened the box was that the "new" Dominos looked very much like the "old" Dominos, only with a giant, deflated bubble in the middle.

The basic taste is much the same as the "old" Dominos, but with a few nuggets of flavor that, while certainly enhancing the taste, are definitely adding to my waistline. The pizza was more buttery, with strong garlic flavor smothered all over the crust (which is one of their promises). The cheese definitely has some parmesean (another promise) with the mozzerella, which gave it tons of saltiness.

I didn't notice much change with the new "robust" sauce, maybe next time I'll choose "extra sauce" when ordering online, so they actually put some on.

Needless to say, it's still pizza, and I ate all but one slice (the challenger decided to do his own taste-test as well).

I got the personal, 10" pizza, so the Slice Count has increased dramatically. No crying.

Dominos

Not even noon yet, and I'm already hungry for lunch. There is a Dominos close by, so I will be trying out their highly-touted, "new a improved recipe." Apparently it's their "Best Pizza Ever." If their only basis for comparison is the "old" Dominos, I'm not sure what to expect. Hell, I used to make better pizza with Lunchables in elementary school (and college).

Stay tuned for lunch, and my thoughts of the "new" Dominos.
