The Last Supper

Well, it's over, and I went out with a bang: Six slices from a 28" pie, bringing the total for the seven days to 71.

Just let the record stand, I have not consumed anything except pizza and water for seven straight days. I took a multivitamin everyday to make sure I didn't pass out at my desk. Also, I haven't gained a pound (believe it or not) all week. Began at 155 pounds and tipped the scales last night at the same weight.

I'd like to thank everyone for following all week, the blog got more than 1,200 unique hits in the seven days.

One last thing: there is a month-long challenge already in the works for sometime this summer, so stay tuned.

The Final Meal

After polishing off two slices this morning for breakfast, I will be ordering 28" pies from "That's Amore" for lunch to celebrate the end of the challenge.

My stomach is killing me right now, so we'll see how many giant slices I eat. I'm guessing two, which would put the final slice count at 67.

Day 7: Lunch - Pizza Hut

For lunch today: A large, deep-dish pizza from Pizza Hut (definitely the most greasy of the fake pizza chains). I didn't have breakfast, so I ate half the pie. The rest will be for dinner and tomorrow's breakfast.

Tomorrow afternoon will be my last meal, ending in a very appropriate pizza party at the office.

It looks like the slice count will end up being around 70. That's not bad for a week's work.

Blog Slacking

My apologies to all of the devoted fans and followers of the Super Slice Me Challenge, the past few days have limited my blogging capability.

Day 6 was spent outside (yes, in 15 degree weather) from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a Habitat for Humanity site hammering all sorts of stuff. We volunteered through our agency, and one of my wonderful coworkers provided lunch for the volunteers and Habitat employees. She brought all kinds of sandwiches and chips, and as I walked into the room where the food was, I saw a small box of pizza. She remembered. Two slices of plain pizza for me.

Later that night was spent at a neighborhood bar and grill (no, not Applebees) for my buddy's 24th. I got a bar pie and drank water the whole night, serving as the official DD. Also, for all of you "Jersey Shore" fans out there, the "Grenade" (the train wreck blonde from a few episodes) used to work at the bar I was at. Her brunette friend still does--AND was working last night. I asked her for a picture with her and she had some very choice words for me that will not be spoken on this blog.

I woke up too early this morning, won't be able to get pizza for a few hours. As the challenge comes to a close, I'd like to say that I was very tempted to complete the month, and may negotiate my terms for the rules a bit more as well. Unfortunately, the challenger is on vacation this week, so I will have to speak with him about it when he gets back.

Thanks for following.

Day 5: Lunch - Thin Crust from Forte

Thought I'd mix it up a bit with some thin-crust pizza from Forte, an Italian place by my office. It wasn't very thin, and the entire thing was overcooked. I wasn't happy, but I still ate five slices because I missed breakfast.

Also, I have chosen to not honor the secondary challenge based on the sheer fact that although I could, I just don't want to eat pizza for a month. Today's lunch has ruined me from pizza, as I still have this horrible, pit-of-my-stomach awfulness that won't quite go away. You have failed me, Forte.

A New Challenge Has Been Proposed

Just left he challenger's office. He went through his daily questions about what's on the menu for lunch (like it's not pizza), how I'm doing, etc. I mentioned how the pizza wasn't the problem, that the water has been the most difficult part.

He then propositioned me to eat only plain pizza for a full month, with any beverages I want. I asked to be able to add toppings to the pizza, to ensure that I don't go a full month with minimal protein intake. What was decided upon was two "free meals" for the month, where I am able to eat anything I wanted.

The first week would count towards the month, so I'd only need to do three additional weeks.

I am intrigued and am seriously considering it because I do think I could eat pizza for a month, so long as I have my choice of beverage.

Any thoughts? Should I ask for more (toppings, cash price, etc.)?

Day 4: Dinner - Bar Pie

Last night I ended up going out with some of my coworkers to a bar in Morristown. I was told they had bar pies, so I'd be fine for dinner.

We ordered two pies (assuming they'd be small), and I ate 9 out of the 12 slices--each pie only had 6. Definitely the worst pizza I've eaten so far, but I didn't expect much from a bar by way of fine Italian cuisine.

Unfortunatelty for me, I was not thinking about breakfast last night, and did not leave myself anything to eat this morning. I am starving. Water has to somehow hold me over until lunch.

Day 4: Lunch

Two leftover Margherita slices from last night. They were still delicious the day after.

Well, here we are: day four. I have eaten just about every kind of pizza allowed by the rules of the challenge (leave suggestions if you have one you think would work). I have had a few different kinds of traditional, pizzeria pizza and some "fake" pizza from Dominos and Papa John's. Even though I feel like it just falls in with the imitation pizza, I guess there's still Pizza Hut.

*For the record: frozen pizzas and pizza bagels have been ruled out by the challenger.

Day 4: It's Beginning To Weigh On Me

To be honest, eating pizza since Monday hasn't been the biggest struggle of this challenge, it's actually been somewhat of a delight.

Being able to only drink water for a week has been wearing me thin. I drink tons of water normally, but the random Gatorade or glass of milk helps break through the monotony of just drinking water. Right now, my morale is shot. I am drowning in a watery pool of leftover pizza and would do awful things for a blue Gatorade right now (Not that Glacier Freeze crap either, Cool Blue, the original).

Day 3: Dinner - Whole Wheat Margherita

Tonight, I'm going a bit lighter after a few meals of "fake" pizza (Dominos, Papa John's), and got a whole wheat Margherita pie from a local pizza joint, Nino's. Technically, it is just a plain pie. Nino's only uses fresh mozzarella, so while their pies are a bit more expensive, they are that much more delicious. I'll be enjoying this pie probably through lunch tomorrow.

Day 3: Lunch

Eating day-old Papa John's while everyone else in the office was enjoying a delicious, breakfast-for-lunch Coyne Cuisine day, wasn't fun.

Day 3: Breakfast - Papa John's Leftovers

Took two bites 30 seconds before the video and I was fighting back
burps throughout. Maybe this whole pizza thing is beginning to weigh on me a bit.

Day 2: Dinner - Papa John's Newbie

Left my laptop at work, so my apologies to all of you who are craving an intense dinner video blog. Maybe tomorrow.

Continuing the "pizza I always see commercials for but never actually eat" trend, I found myself face-to-face with a deep-dish pizza from Papa John's.

Aside from the fact it's a square pizza cut like a round one and came with some gross garlic sauce and a hot pepper (can someone explain that one to me?), it was pretty good.

I have to say my first Papa John's experience was a good one (even though every slice being a right triangle sorta threw me off). I think if I was blindfolded and given a deep-dish slice from Pizza Hut, and one from Papa John's, the only way I'd be able to tell the difference is that Pizza Hut tends to be crispier. They taste exactly the same, but the Papa John's pizza is very doughy--actually it's pretty much undercooked.

Better ingredients, better pizza, Papa Johns.

Papa Johns

I think I'm going to get Papa Johns for dinner tonight.

Today is like a day of fake pizza I always see commercials for, but never want to actually try. I wonder if Papa John will show up to my house if I have it delivered, like in the commercial.

Day 2: Lunch - Dominos "New" Recipe

My inital reaction when I opened the box was that the "new" Dominos looked very much like the "old" Dominos, only with a giant, deflated bubble in the middle.

The basic taste is much the same as the "old" Dominos, but with a few nuggets of flavor that, while certainly enhancing the taste, are definitely adding to my waistline. The pizza was more buttery, with strong garlic flavor smothered all over the crust (which is one of their promises). The cheese definitely has some parmesean (another promise) with the mozzerella, which gave it tons of saltiness.

I didn't notice much change with the new "robust" sauce, maybe next time I'll choose "extra sauce" when ordering online, so they actually put some on.

Needless to say, it's still pizza, and I ate all but one slice (the challenger decided to do his own taste-test as well).

I got the personal, 10" pizza, so the Slice Count has increased dramatically. No crying.

Dominos

Not even noon yet, and I'm already hungry for lunch. There is a Dominos close by, so I will be trying out their highly-touted, "new a improved recipe." Apparently it's their "Best Pizza Ever." If their only basis for comparison is the "old" Dominos, I'm not sure what to expect. Hell, I used to make better pizza with Lunchables in elementary school (and college).

Stay tuned for lunch, and my thoughts of the "new" Dominos.

Day 2: Breakfast - Cold Pizza

Day 1: Dinner

How Many Slices?

How many slices do you think will be consumed over the next seven days? Right now, I'm at three. As you read about below, at lunch I just couldn't stop at two.

Leave your predictions in the comments section at the bottom of this post. The prize is bragging rights. Price is Right rules, as always.

It Has Begun...

I just returned from Anthony Franco's, a local pizzeria by my office. I enjoyed two slices of plain pizza to kick this thing off. After sinking my teeth into the first slice, I realized that this is going to be easier than I thought. I absolutely love pizza and was hungry enough at lunchtime today to go back for a third slice.

Anthony Franco's was delicious. I will definitely be back there soon. Looking forward to dinner.

As requested, I've added the "Slice Count" in the grey bar on the right.

It's On

As part of the Super Slice Me Challenge, I have received a cash advance from the challenger, who will be funding the entire week's worth of pizza. For those of you that have been asking: there is no official prize, aside from that manly pride that comes when a challenge is faced head-on (HeadOn).

True story: I got myself in a similar situation in college when one of my roommates mentioned someone taking a shot of Tabasco sauce. I scoffed at it, saying I could easily do it. No more than 10 seconds later I had a shot glass filled to the brim with hot sauce on my desk, all three of my roommates around egging me on. I was challenged, I knew what I had to do. To make a short story even shorter, I downed the shot, realized I hadn't eaten a thing yet that day, and had to refund the Tabasco due to the horrible fire-in-my-stomach sensation I experienced shortly after. I expect much more success this week.

I know it's barely 10 a.m., but I'm already scouting out local pizzerias. Don't want to start off on the wrong foot. If anyone has any pizza suggestions for the Parsippany, N.J. area, please feel free to leave them below.

Oh, and the official weigh-in this morning was 155 pounds. We'll see how much my weight fluctuates this week.

Video log coming. Stay tuned.

The Last Supper

My last real meal (I'm sure I'll eat breakfast) before the challenge was somewhat predetermined by the fact that it was a football Sunday. I stopped by the local Hooters and enjoyed 20 wings for the games. Also, I have to show my appreciation to Lila for the awesome banner she made for the blog. For those of you who don't know what I look like, that IS me on the pizza box, wearing my all-time favorite hat.

Super Slice Me Challenge: Rules and Backstory

This week, at work, I caught wind of a challenge being thrown around the office. The challenge consisted of eating nothing but pizza for an entire week. A co-worker turned down the challenge and, at that point, I gladly accepted. After some back-and-forth with the doubting challenger, the final rules of the aforementioned challenge were established.

Starting tomorrow, Monday, Jan. 25, I will be consuming only plain, cheese pizza and water for a full week. The challenge will run from lunch tomorrow through next Monday, Feb. 1, ending with a pizza party luncheon. I will eat pizza for breakfast, lunch, dinner and anything in-between for seven straight days.

Some talk was made about the types of pizza before the challenge was formally accepted. I was told that whatever kind of pizza I chose, I would have to stay consistent throughout the week. So, for example, if tomorrow afternoon I decided I wanted a couple pepperoni slices to kick this bad boy off, I would then have to eat pepperoni pizza for seven days. I think it will be relatively easy to complete this challenge with plain pizza, but eating a single topping three times per day for a whole week would be tough.

I will be blogging throughout (video blogging whenever possible).

Stay tuned.
